2020 Racing season
Hello all,
Hope everyone is safe. As you can imagine, the start of the 2020 season has been postponed. The Board Of Directors will be looking more into this later this month. We hope to start racing soon. But we need to take members safety into consideration. Stay tuned, be safe, Work on your boat.
More information will be coming out that effects our season start. As per our Governor we are shut down till June 1.
The DMYC calendar has been updated to reflect this change. We hope to start soon so in the mean time stay safe.
Model Sailboat Racing
Model sailboat racing uses the same rules as full-size boats, with a few changes that are required for RC sailing:
- We use verbal starting countdown which is a 1 or 2 minute recording.
- We typically have 5 to 15 heats per evening, with each evening scored as a separate race, and each race is then used for season scoring.
How do you get started?
Visit our club on race days. Visit as many times as you would like to. Sail or Race if someone has a spare boat.
If you decide you want to own your own boat there are many options:
- Buy a kit and build you own
- Build your own from scratch
- By a gently used boat
- Pay someone to build you a boatwant.
If you are building a boat, plan that over winter and consider buying a used one to sail so you can sail right away! Then you can keep the used one or sell it!
Detroit Model Yacht Club (DMYC)
DMYC was formed in 1979 and is a Member of the American Model Yachting Association (AMYA). Racing is held at Delia Park in Sterling Heights On Monday, Tuesday , Wednesday, Thursday depending on class. The season is May thru September.
There are over 30 sanctioned classes of boats in the AMYA.
